Long Weekend

This weekend has been awesome so far!! And FILLED with good stuff!! Friday evening we went to Scott's parents to eat dinner and celebrate his birthday. We went to bed at 8:30 so that we could get up at 2:45 and go duck hunting! This was my second time to go duck hunting...and the second time to NOT kill anything! I'm not getting frustrated yet though.....

We had to get there so early because it was a nice cold morning and Scott thought that there would be a lot of hunters there and so to get the spot he wanted we had to be there before anyone else. We got there so early, that we had time to boat up river to the spot....set up all the decoys...and STILL have time to take an hour and a half nap before it was shooting time!!

I was really excited thinking we had a GREAT spot in addition to the fact that it was perfect weather conditions. Well, it got to be shooting time and two ducks flew over and Scott shot...I didn't even have time to get my gun up (you have to be quick...and I'm not real quick yet!) Then we waited....and waited....and we kept seeing ducks off in the distance and everyone was landing about 200 yards to our left. By 9:00 we decided to gather all the decoys and try to get over to the place where we saw the ducks landing. That plan didn't work either because the water was too shallow for the boat to get through. About that time, it started raining, so we decided to head back to the truck and call it a day.

I spent the rest of the day cleaning house....REALLY cleaning...I guess you could call it an early Spring cleaning! By late afternoon, the house was looking GOOD!! And I was HAPPY!!

My cousin, Chuck was in town this weekend working a booth at the gun show so he came over to spend the night with us Saturday night. It was so fun to have him visit! It was the first time he had been to our house. He is the eldest cousin and one of the "largest" characters in our family...so we had a big time! Scott grilled his award winning duck recipe and I made some cornbread, greens, and black eyed peas. We had so much fun hanging out!

Sunday morning Scott made us breakfast (hog sausage and biscuits)! Chuck left about 9:00 and then Scott and I started getting ready for church. We spent the afternoon riding all over Jackson looking for me some waders....with no luck! We were hoping to find me some so we could go duck hunting in the morning at a different spot North of Vicksburg that requires waders....Plan B: hunt from the boat in yet a DIFFERENT spot! We'll see....hopefully the third time is a charm.....
