"It took it out!"

It was an exciting Labor Day weekend at the Wardlaw household! Most of the excitement started on Sunday morning. Karis was playing with Macey McKay (giving her a piggy-back ride) when she fell and hit her head. During Sunday School she threw up. Kerri and Mitt took her to the emergency room just to make sure everything was alright. And it was, Praise the Lord!

During our lunch outing, Karis was constantly playing with a loose tooth she had had for several days. It was really starting to get on her nerves. Mimi (my Mom) knowing how much Karis loves crafts, mentioned to her that they needed to make a "Tooth Fairy Pouch" to put her tooth in when she lost it. Of course Karis loved that idea, and was ready to start on it right away! Mimi said she'd get the materials for her and they could make it later that day. After lunch Mitt and the girls when to their house, and my parents and I were headed to the country house. We figured we should go to Walmart to get the craft materials while we were in town, but we were just too tired to stop. So home we went.

After everyone had enjoyed a nice Sunday nap, we (Mom, Dad, and I) returned to Mitt and Kerri's. Of course the first thing Karis asked when we walked in the door was, "Mimi, did you get the stuff for the Tooth Fairy Pouch?"

Karis had been begging her dad to pull this "looth tooth" that had REALLY started to bug her!! Dad casually mentioned how he had one time tied a string to his loose tooth, tied the string to a door knob, and slammed the door to pull it! He quickly followed that story with "how dumb that was!"

Yeah, that's right, after that Karis was determined that was going to be the method SHE used!! We all thought she would never go through with it. But in the mean time, Mitt was having fun with the idea. He first tried some red yarn from the craft drawer. It wouldn't stay on the tooth. Plan B: dental floss!

The whole time Mitt was getting her "tied up" she was getting more and more excited!! We all still believed she would back down when it really came time to "slam"!

Mitt continued. He tied her tooth to the door knob. Got her all positioned the right distance from the door. Instructed Karis on exactly what to do. (Most importantly, DON'T MOVE when you slam the door!)

Still we were skeptical that she was REALLY going to go through with this. The sisters were gathered around watching with excitement. Kerri was reluctantly filming the ordeal. I was spouting off instructional reminders. Dad couldn't watch. He was playing Free Cell in the next room. Mom was.... I'm not sure what she was doing.... I'm pretty sure she was about to have a heart attack because Mitt was "doing this" to his little girl!

All the while, Karis was ready to do the deal.

With one final instruction from Mitt, "Slam the door HARD...and DON'T move your feet!"...

WHAM! The door slammed.... and there was SILENCE.

It seemed like forever. Then Karis exclaimed, "IT TOOK IT OUT!!!"

Laughter burst out all over the room! Sure enough, there was a tooth knotted to the end of that dental floss! Karis had just pulled her FIRST tooth... and in a super hero kinda way at that!!

The next thing out of Karis's mouth was, "The Tooth Fairy is coming tonight!"

We all watched the video at least half a dozen times, and laughed like it was the first time, every time!

Of course, it wasn't long before we realized we only had a few hours before bed time, and we DID NOT HAVE A TOOTH FAIRY POUCH!!!!

There was only one thing to do. Off to Walmart we go!!!!

We got felt and eyes and quickly returned home to get started! Mom hem-stitched two tooth shaped pieces of white felt together with pink thread, stitched a pink bow at the top of the tooth, and Karis glued on the eyes and mouth. It was world record fast... but it was adorable! And Karis LOVED it!!

As Mom, Dad, and I were headed back out to the country, Mitt called and said Karis was so worried that the Tooth Fairy was going to take her Tooth Fairy Pouch!

She woke up bright and early Monday morning to find the pouch still under her pillow...and SIX dollars tucked inside! She was a little disappointed that the Tooth Fairy took her tooth though! :) I think the Tooth Fairy gave her a few extra dollars for her tooth pulling method! I definitely think she deserved it!!

And all this on what would have been Big Daddy's 103rd Birthday (Sept 5)!! Happy Birthday Big Daddy!! We love and miss you!!!!
