Waiting Room

I was making my daily commute to Vicksburg this morning while listening to one of my favorite groups, Shane and Shane. You know how you can listen to a song over and over and over again and then all of a sudden the 437th time you hear it - you actually hear the words...well thats what happened this morning while listening to their song "Waiting Room". All too appropriate timing because I have been praying about a decision for several weeks and have gotten nothing from God on what I am suppose to do. In my quiet time this morning however, I was reading in the book "Discerning God's Voice" by Priscilla Shirer and she said that if you aren't hearing from God on a matter - part of His answer may actually be His timing. Maybe His answer is yes, but it isn't yes right now. In the mean time you just continue to do what you already know to do...and wait. Well, thats all great...but I don't really want to wait anymore! I'm praying about a ministry that I have been involved in for several years that I no longer "feel" a passion for. (Here's the first red flag - its not about "feelings"!) Its definitely a burden not a joy each time I'm "up for my turn". But-I have committed to this, and I know I have to keep my committments until I clearly hear from God that I can move on. What if maybe I can't move on yet because the next door He has to open for me will be a door that is opened through the ministry that I am currently serving in....and if I quit - well then I would have missed the chance to see the open door.

So anyway, back to the song - there is a line in there that says "Lord, if I change my mind - I know you will change my heart in time". I know if I make the choice to be joyful in serving in this ministry because its what I have committed to do, then God will change my mind about it - but I must first CHOOSE to do the right thing - that is do it and do it with a good attitude. Then, in God's perfect timing, He will either tell me it's time for me to move on, or either HE will renew my passion for the ministry so that I can continue on with joy in my serving. The key is - we must choose to do what is right even when we don't feel like it. God knows what He is doing. He is NOT slow in answering. God will mold our will/desire to His AFTER we are obedient with what we KNOW to do.

So I choose...and I wait....

Waiting Room
by Shane Barnard

i will run when i cannot walk
i will sing when there is no song
i will pray when there is no prayer
i will listen when i cannot hear

sitting in the waiting room of silence
waiting for that still soft voice i know
offering my words up to the rooftop to Your heart
trusting that this closet's where You are

Lord i know if i change my mind
You will change my heart in time
Sovereign Lord this time's from You
so i sit in the waiting room of silence
cause its all about You

i will fight when i cannot feel
i will trust when You dont seem real
i will tell when i cannot speak
i will step when i cannot see
